Good cooling tower water treatment ensures that pipes, heat exchangers and other fittings do not become clogged with algae or corrode. Products such as inhibitors and biocides are used for this purpose. As these are expensive and often environmentally harmful substances, exact dosing is very important.

That precise dosing starts with proper and stable measurement of conductivity and pH, among other things. For cooling water, for instance, it is very important to work with the right conductivity meters. Conductivity sensors are cheaper, but can deviate when heavy motors are nearby. As this is almost always the case with cooling water, it is better to opt for a measurement based on inductive conductivity. A bit more expensive, but much better.
